Analyzing Manual Espresso Machine Brands
May 30, 2024

The manual espresso machine market spans everything from budget lever machines to boutique, hand-built brands with multi-month waitlists. Price doesn't always track with quality — some of the most consistent shots come from mid-range machines with excellent thermal stability.
Look past the marketing copy and focus on three things: boiler type (single vs. dual boiler), PID temperature control, and portafilter size compatibility with your grinder. These three factors matter more to shot quality than brand prestige.
If you're buying your first manual machine, resist the urge to max out your budget immediately. A mid-tier machine paired with a great grinder will consistently outperform a flagship machine paired with a mediocre one.
